Cover: Brian Lockstone found this wonderful photograph of Union Airways De Havilland DH.86 Express ZK-AHW, Korimako, at a second-hand book shop in Blenheim. There are no clues on the original as to when or where it was taken or by whom. The proprietor could not help, either. We do know that AHW was a rebuild from ZK-AEG and other DH.86 parts, and it was loaned by the RNZAF to Union Airways in 1945. Its registration was cancelled on 21 October 1946, and the aircraft was subsequently scrapped. Judging by the hangar in the background, the aircraft was at either Ohakea or Whenuapai. We do know that AHW was used for crew training as well as scheduled services _ and since Union Airways’ head office at the time was at Palmerston North, it is conceivable that this portrait was taken at nearby Ohakea. Any clues?
